Dr. John K. Buolamwini was recently awarded a Maturation Grant by the University of Tennessee Research Foundation entitled "Enhancement
of Anticancer Activity and Pharmacokinetic Studies of 1-Aryl-Pyrido[b]Indoles."
After graduating with his Pharm.D. degree from the UT College of Pharmacy in 1988, Dr. Tucker joined the family-owned City Drug
Company in Huntingdon where he implemented several new pharmacy services such as diabetes care, asthma education and immunization
administration. Dr. Tucker has served as president of the Tennessee Pharmacists Association (TPA), president of the Tennessee Board
of Pharmacy, and speaker of the House of Delegates for TPA for more than 10 years.
Dr. Keith Sargent received the 2009 Preceptor of the Year Award during the annual Rotation-Residency day on the Memphis
campus. Dr. Sargent is a Pharmacy Manager at Walgreens in Memphis and has been a preceptor for UTCOP for 7 years.
Dr. Tara Moore was presented the 2009 Roche Communications Award during the fall UT College of Pharmacy (UTCOP) Alumni meeting in
Knoxville, Tennessee. She is a Pharmacy Manager at Food City in Knoxville and has been a preceptor for UTCOP for more than 10 years.
She currently serves as an assistant professor in the department of clinical pharmacy.
Jenny Easterling (P2) will be installed as President of the Tennessee Society of Student Pharmacists (TSSP) during the February 2010
meeting of the Tennessee Pharmacists Association. Jenny chose to run for this position, in one of the nation's most active state
pharmacy organization, because of its valuable opportunities. "I can represent the opinion of student pharmacists and can actively
participate in the decision making process that could dictate what the future of the profession will be."
Dr. S. Casey Laizure and Robert Parker won the best paper competition at the annual American College of Clinical Pharmacy meeting in Anaheim, CA in October.
The presentation was based on work described in their article recently publication in Drug Metabolism and Disposition
entitled, "The effect of ethanol on oral cocaine pharmacokinetics reveals an unrecognized class of ethanol-mediated drug interactions."
Roland N. Dickerson, Pharm.D., BCNSP, has been named the recipient of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Research and Education Foundation’s 2009
Award for Sustained Contributions to the Literature of Pharmacy Practice. Dr. Dickerson is a professor of clinical pharmacy at the University of Tennessee Health Science
Center and a clinical pharmacist and nutrition support service clinical coordinator at the Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn. The ASHP Foundation will recognize all
of the recipients of the 2009 Literature Awards during the 2009 ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Rebecca Regen, a third year student pharmacist, was elected as the 2009-2010 American Pharmacists Association- Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP)
Region 3 Midyear Regional Meeting Coordinator (MRMC). As MRMC, Rebecca will work with the APhA staff to plan and implement activities to be held during the
2010 Midyear Regional Meeting (MRM), which will be in Memphis in the fall.
Mary V. Relling, Pharm.D. has been elected to the Institute of Medicine (IOM), a prestigious branch of the National Academy of Sciences.
Dr. Relling, chair of St. Jude Pharmaceutical Sciences, is among 65 new members of the IOM this year.

Tony Powers, PharmD received the 2009 National Home Infusion Association (NHIA) Gene Graves Award for Lifetime Achievement. Dr. Powers, CEO of Medical Alternatives in Millington,
Tennessee and professor of clinical pharmacy at the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy received the award during the NHIA Annual Conference and Exposition. Established in
2006, the Gene Grave’s Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes outstanding contributions to home infusion patients and to the home infusion community overall.
The 15th Annual Emmett Manley ParScription Golf Tournament. Hosted by ASP, will be held Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at Stonebridge in Memphis, Tennessee. Registration begins at

Duane D. Miller, Ph.D., received the prestigious Volwiler Research Achievement Award during the 2009 AACP Annual Meeting and Seminars.
Dr. Dick Gourley, dean of the college of pharmacy, accepts the 2009 AACP Rufus A. Lyman Award on behalf of a team
of faculty members from the University of Tennessee and the University of Memphis. The Lyman Award honors the best
paper published in the American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education and was presented during the 2009 American
Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Annual Meeting and Seminars on July 21, 2009.
For the second consecutive year, the Omega chapter of Phi Delta Chi Fraternity from the University of
Tennessee won the Emory W. Thurston Grand President's Award during the recent 67th Annual Meeting in Phoenix, Arizona.
The Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) at UTHSC is pleased to announce recipients of its first K12 Scholars grant program. Two
researchers emerged as K12 Scholars grant recipients: Collin A. Hovinga, PharmD (left), and Terreia S. Jones, PharmD (right). Each investigator
holds the position of assistant professor in the UT College of Pharmacy Department of Clinical Pharmacy.
Stephanie J. Phelps, Pharm.D., BCPS, of Memphis, Tennessee, was recently
presented the 2009 Distinguished Service Award by the Tennessee Society of Health-System
Pharmacists (TSHP) in a ceremony held during its annual meeting, in conjunction with the
122nd Annual Convention of the Tennessee Pharmacists Association (TPA) in Hilton Head,
South Carolina.
