APPE

Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPE)

The APPE portion of the curriculum composes more than 25% of the curricular length.  All students are required to take a minimum of 11 APPEs. Each rotation is a minimum of 4 weeks in duration. The majority of APPE rotations (≥ 7) must involve direct patient care (PC) and may occur in various clinical areas. There are four required rotations, of which three are PC APPEs (Advanced Community, Ambulatory Care, and Medicine) and the 4th (Advanced Institutional) is considered an other professional experience (OPE). Students may complete the remaining seven rotations in the various PC (e.g., Cardiology, Infectious Disease, Oncology, Medication Therapy Management) or OPE (e.g., Compounding, Management, Medical Information) areas, with the total OPEs being limited to four or less.

The College is fortunate to be associated with over 80 community pharmacies and 60 hospitals across the state of Tennessee.  Experiential sites are located in over half of the counties in Tennessee, in five other states, and in 12 other countries. Our full-time and part-time faculty exceeds 500 members.
