Katie Barger, M.D.

Dr. Barger grew up right here in Memphis, but it has been a while since she called Memphis home. After graduating from The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a degree in Biology, she spent a year in Michigan working in Research and Development for Post Cereals, where the air smelled of Fruity Pebbles! The long, cold Michigan winter convinced Katie that she really is a southerner at heart, so she returned to the homeland and attended medical school at Quillen College of Medicine in East Tennessee. Though she will miss the mountains, she is excited to be back in Blues and BBQ country. Katie enjoys reading, playing ultimate Frisbee, running, cooking and Bananagrams.

Amber Bishop, M.D.

Dr. Bishop grew up in Chelsea, Alabama, a suburb of Birmingham. She received her BS in Biology at the University of Alabama in Birmingham and stayed in town to attend the UA School of Medicine. In 2005 she married her high school sweetheart, Noah, an electrical engineer. Amber is learning first hand pediatric knowledge from baby Oliver who was born in April just before the start of residency. She enjoys reading, game nights, spending time with friends and family, singing, painting and being involved in her church. Amber looks forward to her second big life change this year - moving to Memphis and enjoying all the city has to offer!

Matthew Blair, M.D.

Dr. Blair was born the youngest of eight children. He was raised in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and graduated from The University of Tennessee in 2007 with a biochemistry undergraduate degree. He worked a year as a medical assistant in a pediatric clinic. Matt attended medical school in Memphis, Tennessee and is excited about staying in Memphis for Pediatric Residency. Matt is marrying his beautiful fiancé, Christine, a month before residency starts. In his spare time, he enjoys cooking, cheering the Tennessee Vols, Denver Broncos and Saint Louis cardinals, running, playing soccer and football, and going to classical music concerts.

Beth Brown, M.D.

Dr. Brown was born and raised in the small West Tennessee town of Union City, Tennessee. She then obtaind her Biology undergraduate degree from Union University located in Jackson, Tennessee and not Union City. She went on to get her M.D. from the University of Tennessee! Beth is passionate about global health and hopes to do mission work one day. During medical school she spent two weeks in Nicaragua and six weeks in Ghana on medical mission trips. In her free time, Beth is active in her church and enjoys playing with her adorable dog, Duncan, a West Highland Terrier.

Jonathan Chang, M.D.

Dr. Chang was born in Los Angeles, California and gradually made his way east across the US until he reached Atlanta, Georgia where he graduated from Georgia Tech with a BS in Biomedical Engineering. During undergrad and for a year afterwards, Jonathan worked as the Youth Director of an Atlanta Chinese Christian Church, and will excitedly show you pictures of his 200+ “kids” who continue to affectionately call him “grandpa” and pepper him with late night calls. He attended medical school in Wild and Wonderful West Virginia, where he developed a passion for Global Health and Community Medicine. Jonathan loves to cook Asian foods (and is always on the lookout for new recipes to try), watch movies and throw wheel pottery. Jonathan is excited to continuing his training in the city of Rock and Roll, Blues and BBQ.

April Durham, M.D.

Dr. Durham was born and raised in the tiny town of Strawberry, Arkansas. She attended Harding University, receiving a BS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. She received her MD from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. April loves traveling and experiencing different cultures. She is also very passionate about missions and hopes to participate in medical missions over the next few years. She also enjoys camping, hiking, reading, and cooking-especially desserts!

Tara Fales, M.D.

Dr. Fales is from Cullman, Alabama and just married to her best friend, James. She couldn’t be happier! Tara graduated from The University of Alabama with a Healthcare Management degree. Roll Tide!! She then attended UAB for medical school. Music is Tara’s second love. She and James enjoy going to concerts of many different genres.

Michele Finfrock, M.D.

Dr. Finfrock is a native Memphian who attended Rhodes College for her undergraduate studies. She received her Bachelors degree in International Studies and had the opportunity to study at the University of Oxford in England for a year. Michele enjoys running marathons and participating in triathlons, especially cycling. She has run the St. Jude marathon and half marathons in Nashville as well as Memphis. She completed the Olympic distance Memphis in May triathlon. Michele married in December 2010. She and Josh met just after high school. He moved away that year and returned to Memphis in 2008. They met again at a friend’s home and the rest is history. They enjoy the tasty restaurants in Memphis. Favorites are Edo (sushi), Elegant Farmer (local farm foods), El Porton (Tex-Mex), Central BBQ and Saigon Le (Vietnamese).

Jennifer Hendrick, D.O.

Dr. Hendrick is originally from Mason, Tennessee and attended undergrad at Christian Brother’s University in Memphis. After college she worked for the Church Health Center as a clinic assistant, and then left Tennessee for the first time to attend Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Florida. After four years in the sun and hard studying, she is excited to come back to Memphis for residency and family! Jennifer loves to play trumpet, piano, tennis, sing and run when she finds time!

Peter Jones, M.D.

Dr. Jones grew up in Sikeston, Missouri and attended the University of Missouri for undergrad, receiving a BA in Psychology. Peter attended medical school there as well. He enjoys watching sports (basketball, soccer, football…pretty much everything). Peter also enjoys spending as much time outdoors as possible, but also watches movies. He just spent a week with his father and brothers at Wimbleton!

Adam Kaplan, M.D.

Dr. Kaplan was born and raised in Memphis. Adam, a proud alumnus of Memphis University School, decided to go up north for college at Harvard. While at Harvard, he met the girl of his dreams, Jenny. Adam, being a fourth-generation physician, could not imagine doing another job, and went with fellow biological anthropology major Jenny to medical school in Tampa. Adam is very happy to return to his home in Memphis, and more importantly is happy that he no longer will feel like a poseur when he roots for the Vols. During his free time he enjoys cooking, comic books, and watching television aimed at younger age demographics.

Sarah Pietrangelo, M.D.

Dr. Pietrangelo grew up in Memphis, Tennessee and attended St. Mary’s Episcopal School fourteen years. She graduated from Princeton University with a major in American History and a minor in Finance. Sarah lived in New York City, Atlanta and Dallas before returning to Memphis to attend The University of Tennessee College of Medicine. While at UT, Sarah met her husband, Joey, who is starting a dermatology residency in Memphis. They love Note Dame football, March Madness, trying new restaurants, and spending time with family and friends.

Melanie McClain, D.O.

Dr. McClain was born and raised in Memphis and went to Florida State for undergrad. Go Noles!! She enjoys sports and is a big Chicago Bulls fan and says that it is kinda embarrassing. Melanie also enjoys spending time with family, including four fabulous nieces and nephews, friends, Bella, her Chiweenie puppy, running, traveling and sushi! Central BBQ is her favorite BBQ joint in Memphis. Melanie volunteered in Child Life at Le Bonheur and St. Jude in high school and summers in college. She is very interested in international medical work and local service projects. Melanie is excited to start at Le Bonheur for residency!

Laurel Metzler, M.D.

Dr. Metzler was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana and is the second oldest of four girls. In 2008, Laurel received a BS in Biology from the Purdue School of Science at Indiana University Purdue University – Indianapolis. She then went on to medical school at Indiana University, but just to be clear, she bleeds black and gold and is a Boiler Maker through and through. Laurel’s greatest accomplishment is eight-year-old daughter Lena, whose smile and laughter can brighten even the worst of days. This team of two is excited to begin their new adventure in Memphis. Laurel enjoys watching Lena ride horses and swim competitively, cooking, camping, mountain biking, and cheering for her Boiler Makers (Boiler UP!) and Indianapolis Colts (Go Horse!)!!!

Kristy Morse, M.D.

Dr. Morse grew up in Starkville, Mississippi. She went to undergrad at Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi where she received a degree in Biology and played soccer for the Choctaws. Kristy attended medical school at University of Mississippi in Jackson, Mississippi. In her free time, Kristy enjoys playing sports, being outdoors and playing with her dog, “Toga”.

Ashley Shearman, M.D.

Dr. Shearman was born in San Antonio, Texas and raised there, and later in Kennesaw, Georgia. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a BS in Biology and attended Mercer University School of Medicine in Savannah, Georgia. Of course, Ashley is a supporter of UGA football (sorry UT fans) and enjoys playing fantasy football. Her boyfriend will also be an intern at The University of Tennessee in Neurosurgery. In Ashley’s spare time, she enjoys traveling to go whitewater rafting and deep-sea fishing. Ashley is excited to experience Memphis history, Redbirds games and barbeque.

Elizabeth Simmons, M.D.

Dr. Simmons is a life-long resident of Jackson, Mississippi. She went to Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi where she majored in Biology Medical Sciences before attending the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. Elizabeth is very excited about moving to Memphis with all the great things here! She is especially excited about all the great restaurants and Orpheum musicals! Elizabeth is also excited about finding a new church home! She loves spending time with family and friends, taking pictures and scrapbooking, watching musicals and Disney movies. Elizabeth is also excited to be closer to her sister who is at Ole Miss and knows they will love visiting.

Jeffrey Smith, M.D.

Hello from Dr. Smith! He is a graduate of The University of Tennessee College of Medicine. Jeff is originally from Atlanta, Georgia and is very excited to start residency training at Le Bonheur. He is an English major from the University of Notre Dame and loves to read. Other hobbies of Jeff include participating in and watching sports and working outside.

Lindsey Wargo, M.D.

Dr. Wargo was born in Houston, Texas and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana. After learning to love the Crimson Tide at a young age (thanks to her dad), she attended the University of Alabama where she majored in Chemistry. She knows it is clichĂ©, but always knew she wanted to be a doctor, specifically a pediatrician. Lindsey returned home to Shreveport to attend medical school at LSU Health Sciences Center. She is happily engaged to Brad, whom she met while in college. Lindsey’s hobbies and interest include photography, Zumba, reading, learning to cook, and spending time with family and friends. She is excited about joining the Le Bonheur family and starting this new chapter of her life in Memphis!

Joi Wilson, M.D.

Dr. Wilson is a native Memphian. She received her undergraduate degree in Neuroscience from Vanderbilt University and MPH from the University of Southern California, before returning home for medical school at the University of Tennessee. Joi loves the Blues, BBQ (minus the pork), and Basketball (Go Grizz and Tigers!). In her spare time she enjoys traveling, reading, watching HGTV, and spending time with her nieces and nephews.
