Kenneth Busby, III, DO
Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine

Dr. Busby is originally from Mobile, Alabama. He went to the University of Southern Mississippi for undergrad (To The Top!), then moved to the great city of Memphis to work at St Jude for two years. After an additional year learning how to type as an emergency room and cardiology office scribe, he attended medical school in South Carolina. Outside of medicine, Ken enjoys photography, running, rock climbing, bouldering, soccer, reading/building a library, audiobooks, podcasts, live music and any brand of psychological thriller. Ken is extremely excited to camp out in Memphis for the near future.

Clifford Costello, DO
New York Institute of Technology

Dr. Costello grew up in Rochester, NY. He attended Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH where he received a BSE in Biomedical Engineering in 2011, and cursedly become a fan of the Cleveland Browns. Cliff briefly worked for a biotech start up before moving to Brooklyn, NY for medical school at New York Institute of Technology College of Medicine. He competes in Olympic-style weightlifting, enjoys making coffee and attempting to cook. In Memphis, he will be searching for the best BBQ ribs and looking for places to hang his hammock.

Clayton Habiger, MD
University of Kansas

Dr. Habiger was born and raised on a farm near Dodge City, KS. He graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Biology and then went to the University of Kansas in Kansas City for his medical education. He is still a fan of K-State football, KC Chiefs and Royals. In his spare time, he enjoys cooking, exercise, and playing guitar. CJ is most excited about seeing if Memphis barbecue is better than Kansas City barbecue and becoming a Grizzlies fan!

Mary Katherine Hood
University of Mississippi

Dr. Hood was born and raised in Jackson, MS. She spent four years at the University of Mississippi studying Biology before returning to Jackson for medical school at UMMC. She met her husband, Seth, after her first year in medical school, in the same church where they were later married. Mary Katherine enjoys being involved in her church, watching movies, and going on walks with Seth and Gracie, their white lab. She cannot wait to move to Midtown, where she can enjoy going to concerts, trying new restaurants, and exploring all that Memphis has to offer.

John Michael Jansen, MD
University of Kentucky

Dr. Jansen was born and raised in Lexington, KY. He attended Loyola University in Chicago for undergrad, before returning to Lexington to attend the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. When he’s not spending time with his wife, Lauren and daughter Adeline, Michael likes to watch Kentucky basketball dominate the SEC, play golf, read and eat food (like a lot of food).

Lindsay Kokoska, DO
Nova Southeastern University

Dr. Kokoska was born and raised in Atlanta, GA. She completed her undergraduate degree in Biology in Pittsburgh, and after 4 years in the cold, she moved to Florida to attend medical school at Nova Southeastern University. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, trying new restaurants, and working out. She is excited to relocate to Memphis and meet new people.

Eric Merkle, MD
University of Mississippi

Dr. Merkle was born in Texas and split his time growing up between Dickson, TN and Long Beach MS. He completed his undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering at Mississippi State University and moved to Jackson to obtain his medical degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center. When he has the time, Eric, enjoys hiking, camping, playing music, and making sure he can hold his own during pop culture rounds at pub trivia. He is very excited to be a Tennessean again and to be a part of the Le Bonheur team.

Michael Michalopulos, MD
University of Oklahoma - Tulsa

Dr. Michalopulos was born and raised in Tulsa, OK. He attended the University of Oklahoma for undergrad (BOOMER!) where he majored in History and cultivated an unhealthy passion for soon football. He also received his medical school education there as well. Michael enjoys being outdoors, watching the Sooners and Thunder, reading and home brewing wine and beer. He is looking forward to experiencing all Memphis has to offer with his new wife (an incoming Med/Ped intern) Madeline!

Paul Molloy, DO
New York Institute of Technology

Dr. Molloy is a first generation Irish American born and raised in Yonkers, NY. He has 3 brothers, an FDNY fireman, an NYPD police officer, and a NYC school teacher. Aside from a two-year period of living in Ireland, he has lived his whole life in NYC. During Paul’s interview, he fell in love with the people at UT and with Memphis. He is anxious to explore Memphis, join the UT family, and to sit courtside, at least once, at a Grizzles game.

Ann Murphy
University of Alabama

Dr. Murphy was born and raised to be an Alabama girl. She grew up in a tiny town called Winfield, AL and then moved to Birmingham where she graduated from Sanford University with a B.S. in biology and then stayed in town to attend UAB for medical school. Ann Elizabeth Loves Birmingham, but is so excited to start a new adventure in Memphis, with her co-interns and husband, who will be an orthopedic surgery resident at UT as well. She loves trying new recipes and restaurants, barre classes, traveling, and Alabama football (ROLL TIDE!!).

Anthony Oddo
Wright State University

Dr. Oddo comes from a family of New York Italians, but was actually raised in the South, and calls Charlotte, NC his home. He completed his undergraduate studies at Emory University and taught for two years with Teach for America on the Texas-Mexico border. He then went to medical school at Wright State University in Dayton, OH where he met his wife Betsy (who is an incoming intern as well!) Anthony enjoys cooking, working out, and is currently trying his hand at home-brewing beer. Cheers!

Wright State University

Dr. Oddo was born and raised in Columbus, OH (go Buckeyes!!). She attended Case Western Reserve University, where she majored in Pre-Medicine Biology, and then went to Wright State University for medical school. Her husband, Anthony, joins Betsy in the UT/Le Bonheur residency program. In her free time, she loves the great outdoors, watching classic movies, jazz music, and craft beer.

James Heath Pelham, MD
University of Alabama

Dr. Pelham grew up in Birmingham, AL and attended Davidson College for his B.S. in Psychology. He then spent a year at Columbia Theological Seminary learning about the interplay between theology and medicine. He then earned his Masters of Science in Biology at UAB. To continue as a “career student”, he then earned his MD from UAB School of Medicine. Heath loves spending time with his family and dog, reading, breweries, movies and Iron Tribe fitness and he cannot wait to explore the city! He is a diehard sports fan and looks forward to when the Warriors come to the Grindhouse.

Claire Rikard, MD
UTHSC

Dr. Rikard spent most of her childhood in Cleveland, OH and moved to Memphis in high school. She returned north to attend Grove City College in Pennsylvania, got cold, and came to UTHSC for medical school. She has always felt called to pediatrics but now has the wonderful problem of enjoying both general peds and many subspecialties. Her husband, Will, is a high school English teacher and football coach and both are thrilled to be staying in Memphis, with their dog Earl and cat, Helo. Claire unwinds by exploring Memphis cuisine, discovering new shows on Netflix, and enjoying the great outdoors.

Jenny Schmidt, MD
University of Illinois – Rockford

Dr. Schmidt was born in Michigan and grew up in Nashville, TN before finally settling in Effingham, IL. She attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL and graduated with a degree in Biomedical Science. She then attended University of Illinois College of Medicine. Her husband, Jordan, joins Jenny and they are both excited for Memphis BBQ and Redbirds baseball. She loved growing up in Tennessee and is excited to be back to spend five years as a Child Neurology resident.

Aaron Shaw, MD
UTHSC

Dr. Shaw grew up in Brentwood, TN. He graduated from the University of Alabama with a B.S. in both Biology and Psychology. He then moved to Memphis to attend medical school here at UTHSC. He enjoys singing, hiking, reading, and any type of board game where someone always ends up saying, “No really, I swear it makes sense once you start playing.” Aaron is very excited to be continuing his training her in Memphis.

Dr. Shenep was born and raised in Memphis, TN. She completed her undergraduate degree at Emory, where she majored in Biology and minored in Ethics. After undergrad, she worked as a Clinical Research Assistant at St. Jude Children’s Hospital for one year. She then went on to attend medical school at UTHSC and is excited to be joining the Le Bonheur team for residency!  Melissa enjoys watching Netflix, dog/cat site, read, spending time outdoors, and trying new things in her spear time.

Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine

Dr. Smith grew up in St. Louis, MO. She attended Truman State University in rural Missouri where she received her bachelor’s degree in Biology. She then went on to the big city of Chicago for medical school at Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. She is excited to move to Memphis and distance herself from Chi-beria’s cold weather. In Alyssa’s spear time, she loves to be outdoors running, biking, and swimming. She also loves to travel to new places in addition to trips back home to visit family, especially her 1-yer old nephew! She is looking forward to devoting herself to pediatrics and meeting the Le Bonheur team!

Wright State University

Dr. Stall was born in Charleston, SC and raised in Maryville, TN and Greenville, OH. She attended Wright State University in Dayton for both undergrad and medical school. In her free time, she enjoys the outdoors, playing soccer, and hiking. Melanie is so excited to finally be back in a warm sunny city, to enjoy reading, looking happy, board/card games and dessert.

Dr. Thompson was born in Los Angeles, CA and raised in Memphis. She got her B.A. in Psychology from UT-Knoxville then returned to her hometown for medical school at UTHSC. When she isn’t working you can find her outside in her garden, hiking, rock climbing or running with her pup, Koda. Sarah also enjoys traveling the world and trying all types of food. She is looking forward to containing her medical education in Memphis and enjoying all this growing city has to offer.

Dr. Vaidya is originally from the San Francisco Bay Area. He attended UCSD for undergrad and then made the journey to Erie, PA for medical school. While interviewing he loved how the residents at UT made him feel like a part of the family and is excited to experience everything Memphis has to offer.
Rohan enjoys reading, writing, and playing with his cat Jinx.

Maggie Vickers, MD
University of Alabama

Dr. Vickers grew up in Anniston, Alabama as the only girl with 3 brothers. She completed her undergraduate degree in Forensic Chemistry at the University of Mississippi (Hotty Toddy!).  After college she moved back to Alabama for medical school at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. In her spare time, she enjoys running, working out, cooking, and playing with her old English Bulldog Roscoe. Maggie is getting married in June before starting residency, so they both are getting excited about moving to Memphis and starting a new journey.

Andrew Vizcarra, MD
Loma Linda University

Dr. Vizcarra grew up hunting, fishing, and playing baseball under the big skies of rural Western Montana. He completed a bachelor’s degree in print Journalism and Southern Adventist University, where he met and married a beautiful Southern Girl named Tara. They both headed west to attend medical school at Loma Linda University. Andrew is thrilled to train in Pediatrics at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital alongside his life-long companion, Tara, and their dog Semolina. He will continue his quest to bake the perfect sourdough bread, brew the tastiest cup of coffee and be a superb, though ever-teasing husband.

Tara Vizcarra, MD
Loma Linda University

Dr. Vizcarra was born and raised in beautiful small town Tennessee. She attended Southern Adventist University for undergrad where she got a B.S. in Biology and more importantly, met her husband of 5 years (the other Dr. Vizcarra). During college, she spend two years volunteering in Peru, which was a major influence in her journey to medicine. Tara relocated to Southern California for medical school, obtaining a MD and MPH degree from Loma Linda University. In her free time, she enjoys creating in the kitchen, traveling and going on outdoor adventures with her husband and overly energetic dog. She is excited to discover all the ways she can do these things in Memphis!

Aaron Walsh, MD
University of Toledo

Dr. Walsh was born and raised in Cincinnati, OH and is the third or four boys. He attended Miami University (in Ohio!) and earned a B.A. in Zoology and a minor in Neuroscience. He stayed in Ohio to attend medical school at the University of Toledo College of Medicine. Aaron is excited to venture out of the Midwest and see all that Memphis has to offer. In his free time, Aaron enjoys working out, playing rec sports, waking up early to watch Premier League soccer matches, all Cincinnati sports, cooking and desperately search for good coffee.
