    Dr. Oulimata Grossman was awarded $5,000 for continuation of her Le Bonheur Children's Hospital small grant for her project “The Role of CD151-Integrin a3b1 or a6b1 Complex in Renal Tubulogeneis and Function” (July 1, 2011 - June 30, 2012).

    Dr. Oulimata Grossman received a Le Bonheur Children's Hospital small grant for $11,000 for her project, “The Role of CD151-Integrin a3b1 or a6b1 Complex in Renal Tubulogeneis and Function” (July 1, 2010 - June 30, 2011). Her mentor for the project is Dr. Xin Zhang, Department of Medicine.

    Dr. Colleen Hastings received a Le Bonheur Children's Hospital small grant for $15,000 for her project, "Serial Measurement of Biomarkers in IgA Nephropathy" (July 1, 2010-June 30, 2011).

    Dr. John Sanders, 3rd year pediatric nephrology fellow, presented Pediatric Grand Rounds on Cystic Kidney Disease in the Le Bonheur auditorium.

    Dr. John Sanders received a Le Bonheur Children's Hospital small grant for $5,000 for the 2nd year of his study "Non-Invasive Diagnosis of IgA Nephropathy." Dr. Sanders has a $50,000 fellowship training grant from the National Kidney Foundation for this project (July 1, 2009 - June 30, 2010).

    Dr. Matthew Eison received a Le Bonheur Children's Hospital small grant for $12,000 for his project "Effect of IgA1-Complexes on ACE2 in Mesangial Cells" (July 1, 2009 - June 30, 2010). His mentors for this project are Dr. Robert Wyatt, Dr. KU Malik in the Department of Pharmacology and Dr. Jan Novak at the University of Alabama at Birmningham.

    Dr. Bettina Ault received the Gift of Life Award at the annual gala held by the National Kidney Foundation of West Tennessee. Dr. Ault was honored for her long time work as a board member and for the directing the organization of the yearly experience at Camp Okawhena for children from the Le Bonheur Children's Hospital transpant and dialysis programs.

    Dr. Shane Roy III, who founded the division of pediatric nephrology at the UTHSC, passed away. Dr. Roy made numerous important contributions to pediatric nephrology and was beloved by his colleagues and patients.

    Dr. John Sanders was awarded a fellowship training grant from the National Kidney Foundation. The grant, "Non-invasive diagnosis of IgA nephropathy" for the period July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009. Dr. Robert J. Wyatt and Dr. Jan Novak (University of Alabama at Birmingham) are co-sponsors. The grant is one of only 26 awarded nationally by the NKF for 2008-2009 and is supported f by the National Kidney Foundation Strides for IgA Nephropathy Fellowship.

    Dr. Deborah Jones' abstract, "Serum uric acid and ambulatory blood pressure in children at risk for hypertension" has been accepted for oral presentation at the 2008 Pediatric Academc Societies/American Society of Pediatric Nephrology annual meeting in Honolulu, Hawaii, May 3-6, 2008. Other accepted abstracts from the division include PL3 resident, Dr. John Spencer's poster presentation. "Characteristics of steroid responsive nephrotic syndrome in children: 1996-2006" (Bettina Ault senior author) and Phyllis Richey's poster presentation, "The association between left ventricular geometry and ambulatory blood pressure in children at risk for hypertension" (Deborah Jones senior author).

    Dr. Noel Delos Santos was awarded 2nd year of funding for his New Investigator Award from the Children's Foundation Research Center for his project' "Podocyte Proteomic Consequences of Oxidative Stress." The award is for $50,000 for the period July 1, 2007-June 30, 2008.

    Dr. Colleen Hastings was first author and Dr. Deborah Jones senior author on the abstract, "Prediction of increased left ventricular mass by ambulatory blood pressure (ABP) in youth at risk for hypertension (HTN)", that was a platfrom presentation at the annual meeting of the American Society of Pediatric Nephrology in Toronto. This meeting is part of the 2007 Pediatric Academic Societies meeting in Toronto, Canada, May 5-8.

    The UTHSC pediatric nephrology division was represented at the annual meeting of the American Society of Pediatric Nephrology/Academic Pediatric Societies with Keith Lau's platform presentation in the Nephrolgy I session, "Elevated serum concentration of Helix aspersa lectin-binding IgA1 in pediatric patients with HSP nephritis" and with Dr. Deborah Jones serving as a moderator for the Clinical Pediatric Hypertension poster symposium. The meeting was held in San Francisco April 29th through May 2nd.

    Dr. Keith Lau's abstract, "Lau K, Yang Y, Cook G, Wyatt R, Nishimura H: Hormonal control of aquaporin 2 requires advanced tubular structures in avian kidneys" was selected as an oral presentation at the Southern Society for Clinical Investigation (SSCI) Nephrology Young Investigators' Forum on March 2 and on March 5, 2006 in the Renal and Electrolyte II session of the Southern Regional Meetings (Southern Society for Pediatric Research) in Atlanta, Georgia.

    Dr. Bettina Ault was elected to membership in the Society for Pediatric Research (SPR) and will be inducted into the society at the 2006 annual meeting in San Francisco, April 29-May 2. In 2005 only 113 new members were chosen. Dr. Deborah Jones is an active member of the SPR and Dr. Russell Chesney and Robert Wyatt are senior members. Dr. Chesney is a former president of the SPR.

    The UTHSC pediatric nephrology division will be well represented at the annual meeting of the American Society of Pediatric Nephrology/Pediatric Academic Societies in Washington, D.C. May 14-17, 2005. Dr. Russell Chesney will receive the prestigious Founder’s Award from the American Society of Pediatric Nephrology and deliver the recipient’s address. Dr. Robert Wyatt will berecognized as a new member of the American Pediatric Society and lecture on IgA nephropathy in the Glomerulonephritis symposium. Pediatric nephrology fellows, Keith Lau and Colleen Hastings, third year medical student, Kim McGlothan and Dr. Wyatt are first authors of poster presentations at the meeting. Ms. McGlothan has been awarded an ASPN travel grant.
