Dr. Amy Hertz, a UTHSC assistant professor and a Le Bonheur Children's Hospital pediatrician, recently returned from a missionary trip to Nicaragua. Dr. Hertz and others from the Jewish professional community as well as interfaith team members visited Jinotega to provide much needed medical care. Ashley Saucier, MD, our second year fellow, was inducted to the national Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society in a ceremony held at the University Club on April 10th, 2012. She was selected for this award for her exceptional leadership, professionalism and scholarly contribution to the division of pediatric emergency medicine. Besides excellence in patient care, Ashley served as the editor of our departmental resource manual, assisted faculty in developing protocols for management of acute pain in the emergency department and is the principle investigator of a collaborative study investigating a clinical pathway utilizing the pediatric appendicitis score (PAS) and ultrasonography for children with suspected acute appendicitis. The goals of her study are to streamline care of patients with acute abdominal pain by decreasing utilization of abdominal CT scans and length of stay.
