Move to the New Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital
Both critical care areas, the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and the newly named Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) (formerly known as the TCU), moved all patients and operations to the new Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital during the weekend of December 4th & 5th, 2010.

The PICU moved to the 5th floor, while the IMCU are now directly above, on the 6th floor. Preparations for the move began over one year ago; unit associates, physicians, and hospital management started working together to accomplish safely moving approximately 20 critically ill children. Practice sessions (mock moves) took place in the summer and fall of 2010.

Preparing the staff to work in a new environment has been both challenging and rewarding. Both units were designed with family-centered care in mind. All patient care and support areas were designed and built not only to include the latest technology and provide the most advanced medical care possible, but also to be patient- and family-friendly at the same time.
