Ob/Gyn Residency Facts and Figures

Our current class has a total of 33 residents and includes graduates of Allopathic and Osteopathic medical schools.

Curriculum/Rotations

Residents have an active role in shaping their training and their feedback is valued and appreciated. Monthly meetings are held between all faculty and residents to discuss the program as well as any issues in the practice of Ob/Gyn. Resident representatives from each PGY level also serve on the
education committee which meets at least semi-annually to review the current curriculum, didactics and evaluation methods for the upcoming year.

Each resident has access to an online based learning curriculum with board review prep questions.

Didactics

Residents have protected time to attend educational departmental conferences each week.

  • 2 hours devoted to didactics teaching (includes Grand Rounds, M&M and simulation sessions)
  • 2 hours devoted to rotation based teaching with faculty facilitator

Faculty

  • 18 faculty provide care in the specialties of general Obstetrics and Gynecology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Oncology, Urogynecology and Pediatric Adolescent Gynecology
  • 3 Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellows
  • 1 Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery fellow

Resident Life

The UTHSC Ob/Gyn residency program seeks not only to
provide residents with an excellent training experience based on core knowledge and fundamentals from a rigorous curriculum throughout their four years, but to produce well rounded professionals through the promotion of wellness and work-life balance opportunities. All of our residents benefit from the following

  • 3 weeks of vacation and sick leave per year w/flexible holiday scheduling
  • 1 week orientation and onboarding session for incoming residents
  • Annual resident appreciation week
  • Resident wellness initiative w/quarterly program activities and seminars
  • Annual retreat for PGY-3 level residents

Graduates

Due to the training our residents receive, graduates of our program have no problem obtaining jobs and have entered into positions within private practice groups, academic medicine and in-patient (laborist) groups throughout the country and further pursued their training in fellowship programs in Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Gynecologic Oncology, Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery and Pelvic Surgery
