Please join us at 6:00 pm Friday,  May 3, for the 2024 NightinGala and Nurse Hero Awards! For the eighth year, the UT Health Science Center College of Nursing will launch National Nurses Week by honoring members of America's most trusted profession - nurses. The event will be held at The Great Hall and Conference Center, 1900 S. Germantown Road, Germantown, TN, 38138. Doors open at 6:00 pm for a cocktail hour and bidding on Silent Auction items. WMC-TV News Anchor Joe Birch will serve as the emcee as we honor Nurse Heroes and the winner of the Dr. John W. Runyan Jr. Community Nursing Award during dinner and the awards program at 7:00 pm.

Celebrate Nursing

Nominate a Nurse Hero

In celebration of National Nurses Week, the UT Health Science Center College of Nursing, along with nurse leaders from across our community, will honor Nurse Heroes at the 2024 NightinGala. The deadline to submit nominations is midnight on March 18.

Please submit nominations for the following awards:
Bedside Nurse Hero—recognizes an individual registered nurse who has demonstrated outstanding contributions directly at the point of care and/or bedside nursing.
Advanced Practice Nurse Hero—recognizes outstanding contributions by nurses of advanced practice, including those in positions of nurse practitioner, certified registered nurse anesthesiologist, nurse midwife and clinical nurse specialist.
Executive Nurse Leader Hero—recognizes outstanding contributions of a registered nurse in the position of leadership such as nursing director, manager, supervisor, clinical educator, case manager, nurse manager or leader.

John W. Runyan Jr. Community Nursing Award

This award recognizes a practicing nurse in Tennessee, Arkansas, or Mississippi who has made significant contributions to community health nursing in one or more of these areas: 

  • Delivery of health care services 
  • Preventive and promotive care 
  • New forms of health education and administration 
  • Analysis of environmental factors affecting the health of populations 
  • The study of health maintenance  

Community health nursing occurs principally  in primary care settings where clients live, learn, work, play, and worship. It can also include all community-based health programs. The award is named for Dr. John W. Runyan, Jr., University Distinguished Professor Emeritus in the UT Health Science Center's Department of Preventive Medicine. The nomination deadline is March 18.
