Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Jami S. Brown joined the College of Nursing faculty in June 2012. She is an Associate Professor and is the concentration coordinator for the Traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Dr. Brown is also the Instructor of Record (IOR) for the Accelerated BSN Nursing Concepts III: Care for Adult-Gerontology Patients with Acute/Complex Health Problems course. She provides clinical supervision in the Nursing Concepts III and Nursing Internship: Leadership and Management courses. In addition, she is an instructor in the Leadership and Health Policy course for the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program.

Dr. Brown received a BSN degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi, in 2002, a Master of Science in Nursing degree with a focus in Leadership in Health Care Systems Education from Regis University in Denver, Colorado, in 2006, and a Doctor of Health Education degree from A. T. Still University in Kirksville, Missouri, in 2009.

Dr. Brown has more than 20 years of experience in the nursing profession, including a background in critical care and dialysis nursing. In addition, her research interests include chronic kidney disease, health disparities, and nursing education.

Dr. Brown holds a national certification as a certified nephrology nurse (CNN). In addition, she is an active member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society, American Nephrology Nurses Association, American Nurses Association, Tennessee Nurses Association, Association of Black Nursing Faculty, National Black Nurses Association, and the National League of Nursing. She also serves on the Nurses on Boards Coalition Board of Directors as a member representative for the American Nephrology Nurses Association. In addition, she serves on the Editorial Board for the Nephrology Nursing Journal and the Association of Black Nursing Faculty Foundation Journal. Dr. Brown was elected to serve as Secretary on the American Nephrology Nurses Association’s 2024-2025 National Board of Directors.

Dr. Brown received the Student Government Association Executive Council (SGAEC) Excellence in Teaching Award in 2014 and 2017. She serves on various committees in the college, community, and national organizations.
