Dr. Keevia Yvette Porter, a Memphis native, is a 2011 graduate from University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center’s (UTHSC) Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program with an emphasis in Public Health Nursing. She earned her BSN from the University of Memphis in 1998 and her MSN (administration) from Union University in 2003. She later earned a family nurse practitioner post-graduate certificate from the University of Memphis in 2007.

Dr. Porter has been a registered nurse (RN) since 1999 , a nurse educator since 2005, and a nurse practitioner (NP) since 2008. Her experiences include working as a RN in post-trauma, telemetry, medical/surgical, step-down, long-term care, rehabilitative therapy, and nursing management. As a NP, she has worked in home-based medicine, ambulatory and retail healthcare clinics, diabetes consulting, hospice, and rehabilitative healthcare. As an educator, she has taught both didactic and clinical for community health, adult health, foundations, dosage calculations, and License Practical Nurses (LPN) transitional courses. She has taught at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

She is currently an assistant professor of nursing at the UTHSC where she serves as the coordinator of the post-licensure RN and BSN to MSN Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) option track. In addition, she teaches in the pre-licensure MSN/CNL option-track.

She is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Sigma Theta Tau, National League of Nursing, Tennessee Nurses Association, and American Nurses Association. She also currently serves on the board of the YWCA of Greater Memphis and volunteers as a provider for the Church Health Center of Memphis and a member of the United Way Allocations team. She also has served as a University of Memphis faculty mentor for 4 years on nursing mission trips to the Dominican Republic.
