IOM nursing initiative aims to be "transformational"
The Institute of Medicine's new Initiative on the Future of Nursing aims to produce a "transformational" report for 21st century nursing. But the initiative has some critics. One expert said nurses already know the answers to most questions raised by the IOM, while others point out that the committee doesn't have any member who is an active staff nurse besides a nurse-midwife who graduated in 2008.

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Institute of Medicine Launch 'Future of Nursing' Initiative
As part of the initiative, a committee of experts led by former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Donna Shalala will work to review innovative models of nursing care and education while putting together a report on the future of nursing.
