Memphis,
Tenn. (October 14, 2010) – As of today, James W. Morris, MD, FACS, completes
his service as president of the UT College of Medicine Alumni Council at the
University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC). A long-time Lebanon, Tenn., resident who
practices general surgery, Dr. Morris is a 1972 graduate of the UT College of
Medicine. He also holds a BS degree from
Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro. He concludes his service during the annual UT
College of Medicine Alumni Weekend, which is being held October 14 to 16 at the
Peabody Hotel in Memphis.
Paul J.
Huffstutter, MD, a 1973 graduate of the UT College of Medicine, was elected as
the next president for the UT College of Medicine Alumni Council and will serve
through September 2012. Dr. Huffstutter works
as co-director of the Medical Simulation Center for the Graduate School of
Medicine in Knoxville, a UTHSC College of Medicine campus. He also serves as assistant professor in the
Department of Surgery at the UT Graduate School of Medicine. A resident of Knoxville, Tenn., Dr.
Huffstutter also holds a BS from UT Martin.

ambassador for the UT Health Science Center during his tenure as president of
the College of Medicine Alumni Council, “said Keith Carver, PhD, interim vice
chancellor for Development and Alumni Affairs at UTHSC. “We look forward to continuing this tradition of leadership
with Dr. Huffstutter, who has served as a key volunteer leader for the College
of Medicine for many years.”
The
president of the UT College of Medicine Alumni Council serves a two-year term
and is elected by the 60 members of the Alumni Council. Responsibilities of the volunteer position
include: working with the UT College of Medicine Alumni Council to present timely
continuing medical education programs; developing informative alumni workshops
and events; and collaborating with the UT Office of Development and Alumni
Affairs on the annual alumni awards luncheon.
Since its founding in 1911, more than 13,000 men and women have earned
their medical degrees at UTHSC. On
average about 300 alumni participate each year in the UT College of Medicine
Alumni Weekend.
