NFL-Sponsored
Offense-Defense Camp to Take Place at
The
University of Tennessee Health Science Center
__________________________________________
Memphis, Tenn. (May
23, 2011) -- The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will
host an Offense-Defense (O-D) camp which will take place on June 12-15. Organized by the National Football League
(NFL), the camp is geared towards high school students and youth ages 7 to
14. For high school students, the focus
will be on upper thump tempos, college placement, video training,
player-ranking system, and position-specific evaluation. Younger participants
will focus on full contact, superior instruction, video feedback, adult
supervision and technical evaluation.
Offense-Defense
camps have the most college scout representation of any football camps in the
world. These camps use actual NFL
coaches and players as coaching staff. In fact, O-D events have employed 30 of the
current 32 NFL head coaches as coaches for the camps.
“It is a wonderful
opportunity for both the campus and community to have O-D football come to
Memphis,” says Frank Harrison, director of Campus
Recreation at UTHSC. “With a track
record of proven performance and placement for high school students, NFL
coaches and players giving instruction; and the national exposure for the
campers, this is truly an experience that can benefit the entire community. ”
Participating campers
will be placed in a group with others according to age, size, experience and
personality (aggressiveness). Resident
NFL and college coaches will lead the campers through instruction of basic
techniques and fundamental skills during progressive contact sessions. As the week advances, controlled contact and
age-specific scrimmages are introduced, culminating in a full-contact
"Super Bowl" at the end of the camp. Past participants include Ray
Lewis of the Baltimore Ravens, Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson of the Cincinnati
Bengals, and newcomer Cam Newton of the Carolina Panthers. For more
information, call Milow Weems at (843)-903-1888 or visit http://www.o-d.com/camps/locations/Memphis .
Those who wish to
participate in the camp have options of
joining in day, extended day or overnight camps with fees of, $499,
$695, and $795, respectively. Group rates at discounted prices are also
available.
The Offense-Defense Camps are the largest
full-contact youth football camps in the country. For the last 42 years, the O-D camp has been
committed to providing youth football players with the ultimate instructional
football camp. In addition to the fundamentally sound football instruction
campers receive at Offense-Defense, the initiative provides campers with skills needed to succeed
in life. Offense-Defense provides an
environment that fosters such skills as teamwork, discipline, responsibility,
respect, family values, and hard work.
