UTHSC to Participate in American Heart Association Heart Walk

 

Thirty-seven UTHSC teams are working diligently in an effort to raise funds for the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk. The three-mile walk around downtown Memphis starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10, at AutoZone Park.

 

As a Red Cap sponsor of the Heart Association this year, the University of Tennessee Health Science Center has set a goal to raise $30,000. In an effort to serve the community and show appreciation for the American Heart Association’s continued support to UTHSC, fund-raising efforts are in full swing. During the past several years, the AHA has provided over $2.9 million in grants and funding to UTHSC, and now the health science center wants to say “thank you” by supporting the Heart Walk.

 

To make a donation or participate in the walk, contact Campaign Coordinators Sharon Richardson, SRichardson@uthsc.edu, or Bobby Thomas, BThomas@uthsc.edu. They will assist anyone who would like to find a team to join.

 

A kickoff rally will be held in Forrest Park on Friday, Aug. 26, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. to increase enthusiasm for the event. Team captains and walkers should attend the kickoff to help spread excitement campus-wide. Refreshments and prizes will be available until they are gone.

 

Participants can also purchase UTHSC Heart Walk T-shirts for $5 at the rally in preparation for the Sept. 10 Heart Walk. Organizers hope to see everyone there in a “sea of orange” as they join Chancellor Bill Owen and his wife in the walk.  

 

Heart Walk Schedule:

·        7 a.m. – Red Cap Breakfast & Early Registration

·        8 a.m. – Registration & Booths and Kids’ Corner Open

·        8:30 a.m. – Music and Pre-walk

·        9 a.m. – Heart Walk Begins

·        10 a.m. – Food and Drinks

·        11 a.m. - Conclusion
