New Initiatives for Optimizing Brain Development in Children

This program for the general public featured two presentations by internationally known scientists on the early development of the brain. Dr. Daniel Goldowitz, a neuroscientist from the University of British Columbia, discussed environmental influences on the developing brain, with an emphasis on critical periods. Dr. Clyde Hertzman, a neuroscientist also from the University of British Columbia, talked about new tools and initiatives designed to inform about physical, social-emotional, and language-cognitive development of early childhood. Dr. William E. Armstrong, Director of the University of Tennessee Neuroscience Institute, moderated the program.
