Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers Certification

UTHSC College of Medicine requires that all College of Medicine students obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare providers certification during the first year of medical school. There is no need to do this prior to entry into medical school as your class will be batch enrolled in September/October. Students will receive an email with instructions from RQI1Stop to let you know to begin training once enrolled.

All necessary resources are paid for by the College of Medicine, however, you have 60 days from the issue of the license (access) to complete BLS certification. If not completed within the 60 days, the student will have to pay $75 to have a second license issued. All first year medical students MUST be BLS certified by November 1st of their first year and upload their certification to Qualified First Verified Credentials (QFVC). Failure to certify and upload to QFVC by November 1st will place a hold on your registration and financial aid for the Spring semester.

Currently certified?
If you are currently certified, proof of the certification should be sent to the Office of Medical Education by September 1st of your first year. Please do not submit this certification until you have entered medical school. After the first day of classes, please send a clear copy to Kimberlee Norwood (knorwood@uthsc.edu) prior to September 1st. You will also need to submit the certification to QFVC by November 1st to avoid a hold being placed on your registration and financial aid accounts.

All M3s will renew their certification during the Principles of Clinical Medicine V (PCM V) - Preparation to Clerkships activities. This will provide you with the opportunity to update your BLS certification, thus enabling you to take ACLS in your M4 year in the Capstone course.

Note: the below resources may change without notification to the OME. If you find an issue, please contact Kimberlee Norwood, knorwood@uthsc.edu.
