Medical Education Committees

The Committee on Continuing Medical Education

The Committee on Continuing Medical Education is responsible for reviewing and recommending policies pertaining to Continuing Medical Education for the College. Time commitment - Meetings are held every other month and last for 2 hours. Appointment is for 3 years. Committee needs 2-4 new members each year.

Progress and Promotions Committee

Progress and Promotions Committee for a Medical Class: Each medical class which matriculates has a group of six to seven faculty appointed as its Progress and Promotions Committee. This committee will meet with respective course directors in each semester of the freshman and sophomore years and with respective clerkship directors during the third and fourth year. Committee is responsible for recommending to the Dean appropriate action to be taken for students who fail a course/clerkship, fail to achieve the required GPA or who fail the Step 1 or 2 USMLE examinations. Commitment: sporadic but approximately 20 hours per year. 

 

Curriculum Committees

Regular meetings are as follows:

  • The CUME meets the third Monday of every month in the Medical Education conference room (Room 1025). The meeting teleconferenced to Knoxville, Chattanooga and Nashville.
  • The CMDCS meets monthly on either the third Tuesday or third Thursday of every month in room C1 of the 930 Madison Building.
  • The CSS meets monthly on the second Monday of each month in the Medical Education conference room (Room 1025). The meeting is teleconferenced to Knoxville, Chattanooga, Nashville and Jackson.
CUME: The Committee on Undergraduate Medical Education

The Committee is responsible for (1) reviewing and recommending policies and programs regarding undergraduate medical education to the Dean of the College of Medicine, and (2) implementing and evaluating the undergraduate curriculum of the College of Medicine. Subcommittees of the Committee on Undergraduate Medical Education coordinate and implement the educational program in specific areas.

The Committee on Undergraduate Medical Education (CUME) occurs on the third Monday of every other month from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm CST unless otherwise noted. The meeting takes place in the MedEd Conference Room, 910 Madison, Room 1025 and is video-conferenced to Knoxville & Chattanooga.

CMDCS: Course and Module Directors Curriculum Sub-Committee

The CMDCS is responsible for (1) reviewing and recommending policies and programs in the biomedical sciences portion of the curriculum to the Committee on Undergraduate Medical Education, and (2) implementing and evaluating the biomedical sciences curriculum.

The CMDCS meets monthly on either the third Tuesday or third Thursday of every month in room C1 of the 930 Madison Building.

CSS: Clinical Sciences Subcommittee

The CSS is responsible for (1) reviewing and recommending policies and programs regarding the third- and fourth-year core clerkships to the Committee on Undergraduate Medical Education, (2) managing the implementation and evaluation of the clerkship curriculum, (3) reviewing for approval new elective clerkship proposals from faculty members, and (4) implementing and evaluating the clinical elective curriculum.

The Committee on Clinical Sciences Subcommittee (CSS) occurs on the second Monday of the month from 3:30—5:00 pm CST unless otherwise noted. The meeting takes place in the MedEd Conference Room, 910 Madison, Room 1025 and is video-conferenced to Knoxville & Chattanooga.
