ITS Project Listing

Information Technology Services is always working on multiple projects that help advance the missions of the university. This list reflects the major projects we recently completed, currently are working on, and are planning for the near future and the tangible benefits of each for our customers. Return to this list periodically to see the exciting things we are doing to enhance your teaching, learning, research, and clinical practice!

Projects In Execution Phase

All necessary work to complete the following projects has been defined and a completion date estimated based on that work, available resources, and other constraints. Please note the completion estimate for any project is subject to change based on a number of factors.

Banner: Implementation of Axiom data-capture solution for Pharmacy Academic, Faculty, and Student Affairs May 2016 New Initiative Reduces the manual data entry currently required for inputting information from electronic applications into Banner
Banner: XE test instance Student Affairs & Enrollment Services May 2016 Enhancement Phase I of upgrade to Banner XE, which provides a more user-friendly interface as well as added flexibility and functionality to the student information system
Dunn building network upgrade College of Dentistry May 2016 Enhancement Enhances patient care by speeding the retrieval of patient records in the clinical environment
IT service catalog Information Technology Services May 2016 Technical Infrastructure Provides customers with a categorized web listing and description of all ITS-delivered services and enables ITS to show its business value
Website redesign: Jackson (TN) Family Practice clinic Jackson Family Practice Clinic May 2016 Enhancement Provides a care-centered site that focuses on services, providers, hours, and other information needed by patients
Office 365

Information Technology Services Summer 2016 New Initiative Increases email quota to 50GB per person; provides OneDrive for Business, Office Web Apps, Office suite downloads for 5 personal devices, , and other tools and services to faculty, staff, and students at no individual or departmental cost
VPN access review Information Technology Services Summer 2016 Technical Infrastructure Increases security of UTHSC data and computing and networking resources by removing unused access to remote-access client

Project Category Definitions:

  • Mandatory: A project whose output is required by the government, UTHSC administration, or UT administration
  • Technical Infrastructure: A project whose output maintains or enhances the services, systems, and facilities that enable ITS to fulfill its missions; may be a new initiative or an enhancement
  • New Initiative: A non-technical infrastructure project that creates a new product, service or result for the university
  • Enhancement: A non-technical infrastructure project that upgrades the functionality or features of an existing product or service

 FileMaker Pro (FMP) support Information Technology Services  February 2016 Provides customers with basic support and access to the latest version of FMP and FM server at no individual or departmental cost
 Patient records secure storage College of Dentistry (Orthodontics)  February 2016 Expands use of orthodontics imaging software to multiple computers/users; increases security of patient data
 Website development: MTM Eligibility Criteria study Clinical Pharmacy  February 2016 Disseminates study findings for NIH-funded grant; promotes College of Pharmacy research
 Website development: 16th Midwest Platelet Conference Internal Medicine  March 2016 Disseminates conference information and facilitates registration and payment collection
 Formal establishment of ITS Project Management Office (creation of charter) Information Technology Services  April 2016 Formalizes and standardizes the management of projects to achieve more positive, quantifiable outcomes; ensures the alignment of projects with the university's strategic goals
 UTHSC Alert and Rave Guardian implementation Executive Vice Chancellor's Office/Campus Police  April 2016 Enhances campus safety by increasing number of delivery methods for emergency notifications and providing a personal safety mobile app

Acalog-Banner integration (Acalog) Academic, Faculty, and Student Affairs Ensures course information listed in Banner matches what is in the Acalog academic catalog management system, thereby providing more accurate and consistent-looking data across university publications, systems, and websites
Access Request Form Information Technology Services Automates process of request access to Banner and other systems Also increases data security

Clinical research database upgrade Department of Urology Facilitates greater ability to search the contained data
College of Medicine Clerkship scheduler upgrade College of Medicine Updates the current clerkship scheduler to meet student and administrator needs; streamlines the process for adding clerkship schedules into Banner
College-specific transcript report Registrar's Office Facilitates the automation of the degree audit process
Disabilities Services management application Student Academic Support Services and Inclusion Streamlines the processes of applying for, tracking, reporting, documenting, and assigning accommodations, which facilitates student success, retention, and graduation
Disaster recovery/business continuity plan Information Technology Services Facilitates continued operation of the university following a disaster by ensuring that UTHSC data is preserved and accessible and a plan is in place to direct the appropriate people to take the proper actions after an event occurs
Encryption software: Phase I (laptops) Information Technology Services Protects UTHSC data in the case of computer theft or loss
Human Resources: Educational Assistance Online Forms Human Resources Simplifies the educational assistance process by directing employees to the appropriate forms, allowing them to fill out the forms online, and digitizing the form authorization process
New-hire orientation redesign: Phase I Human Resources Enables new employees to review and enroll in benefits plans prior to orientation

Public users database Library Tracks non-UTHSC use of library
UTHSC website redesign: Phase II (navigation strategy) Chancellor Modernizes the UTHSC website to meet or exceed standards set by other medical colleges and universities as well as the expectations of incoming students
Website redesign: Audiology and Speech Pathology (ASP) ASP Facilitates better promotion of ASP clinical programs to prospective patients
Website redesign: Library website update (Phase II) Library Updates website look; reduces work needed to keep site up to date
