Information Technology Services is always working on multiple projects that help advance the missions of the university. This list reflects the major projects we recently completed, currently are working on, and are planning for the near future and the tangible benefits of each for our customers. Return to this list periodically to see the exciting things we are doing to enhance your teaching, learning, research, and clinical practice!

Security information and event management system (LogRhythm) Information Technology Services November 2015 Technical Infrastructure Increases the security of UTHSC data and computing resources by providing real-time analysis of IT security alerts and facilitates compliance to a number of regulations (ex., HIPAA) by logging security data and generating security reports
Office 365: Phase II Information Technology Services Fall 2015 New Initiative Provides Office Pro Plus, OneDrive for Business, Lync Online, SharePoint Online, Yammer, and other tools and services to faculty, staff, and students at no individual cost
2015 Blackboard cleanup and Banner integration (formerly two separate projects: Blackboard-Banner integration and Blackboard server migration to vendor) Information Technology Services December 2015 Enhancement Improves server and system performance and reliability; reduces unexpected downtime; reduces manual administration of Blackboard system and increases data integrity by automating user account creation, course creation, and course enrollment

  • Mandatory: A project whose output is required by the government, UTHSC administration, or UT administration
  • Technical Infrastructure: A project whose output maintains or enhances the services, systems, and facilities that enable ITS to fulfill its missions; may be a new initiative or an enhancement
  • New Initiative: A non-technical infrastructure project that creates a new product, service or result for the university
  • Enhancement: A non-technical infrastructure project that upgrades the functionality or features of an existing product or service

UTHSC website redesign: Phase I Chancellor March 2015 Modernizes the UTHSC website to meet or exceed standards set by other medical colleges and universities as well as the expectations of incoming students (NOTE: Project output will be a proposed home page redesign and supporting page templates, not the actual redesign itself)
AxiUm 6 upgrade College of Dentistry June 2015 Updates Dentistry’s electronic health record system to latest version (v6) to facilitate ICD10 compliance and enhance functionality
MiPACS image system implementation College of Dentistry July 2015 Replaces current picture archiving communication system in hopes of providing enhanced dental image quality and patient care
Windows 2003 Server operating system retirement Information Technology Services July 2015 Maintains data and systems security by removing an operating system that Microsoft will stop supporting in July 2015

College-specific transcript report Registrar’s Office Facilitates the automation of the degree audit process
Database tool adoption and support Information Technology Services Provides campus users with a secure, do-it-yourself database tool to create lower-complexity, smaller-scale databases as well as user training and guidance on appropriate use
Disabilities Services management application Student Academic Support Services and Inclusion Streamlines the processes of applying for, tracking, reporting, documenting, and assigning accommodations, which facilitates student success, retention, and graduation
Disaster recovery/business continuity plan Information Technology Services Facilitates continued operation of the university following a disaster by ensuring that UTHSC data is preserved and accessible and a plan is in place to direct the appropriate people to take the proper actions after an event occurs
Encryption software (Trend Micro) Information Technology Services Protects UTHSC data during storage and sharing as well as in the case of computer theft or loss
Human Resources: Educational Assistance Online Forms Human Resources Simplifies the educational assistance process by directing employees to the appropriate forms, allowing them to fill out the forms online, and digitizing the form authorization process
Jackson (TN) Family Practice clinic website Jackson Family Practice Clinic Provides a care-centered site that focuses on services, providers, hours, and other information needed by patients
Library website redesign Library Increases website security; adds desired functionality; reduces technical back-end work for the customer
