Application Process

Application Deadline

The application deadline is November 15. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered for an interview.

Selection Criteria

Positions are offered through the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). All applications must be submitted through Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).

A complete application consists of:

  • Current Photograph (required)
  • Personal Statement
  • Medical School Transcript
  • MSPE
  • USMLE or COMLEX Scores
    • Score is required with submission of your initial application.
    • CS and CK scores are required prior to the deadline for submission of the rank list.
  • Three Letters of Recommendation (including the medicine chair)

All ERAS applications are reviewed and invitations to interview will be extended to those selected via e-mail.

The Internal Medicine Program does not offer observerships or externships.

IMG Requirements

Due to the large number of highly qualified applicants, only a small number of international medical graduates are granted interviews.

Candidates with a passing score of 230 on the first attempt on USMLE Step 1, Step 2 CK, and Step 2 CS have priority in our selection process. We do not require USMLE Step 3 when reviewing your application.

To be considered for ranking, applicants must submit a valid ECFMG certificate by January 30th.

We offer a J1 Visa only. Please do not submit an application to our program if you require a H visa.

ERAS 2018 Residency Application Timeline

The date of graduation from medical school should be within the last three (3) years. If not, applicants must have worked as a physician in a clinical setting for at least two (2) years in the last five (5) years.

All residents must pass a criminal background check and urine drug screen before they are allowed to start work at the University.

Interviews are granted by invitation only. Our interview is designed to provide you with as much information about our program as possible while also giving us an opportunity to get to know you.

Interview Dates

Interviews are scheduled on Mondays, Tuesdays and some Thursdays from October to January. Interviews are not scheduled over the Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year’s holiday seasons.
