Description: The Department of Pathology at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in association with Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare in Memphis, TN is seeking a full-time faculty member to serve as Director of the Molecular Genetics Laboratory at Le Bonheur Children?s Hospital. Academic rank of this position will be commensurate with experience.

The primary function of this role will be to oversee diagnostic activities performed in the Le Bonheur Molecular Genetics Laboratory. The position supervises medical technologists in the performance of clinical molecular genetic diagnostic tests, in trouble shooting these procedures, and in assuring quality control and quality assurance aspects of testing. The successful candidate will be responsible for execution and development of testing modalities to serve the molecular genetic diagnostic needs of the Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare system as a whole; it is anticipated that this effort will largely be focused on the child health sphere, and will expand to meet broader needs.

We are seeking board eligible or certified candidates in Clinical Molecular Genetics by the ABMGG with a track record of excellence in diagnostic molecular, genetics, next generation sequencing and microarrays and potential for clinical, translational or collaborative research. Additional ABMGG board certification or eligibility in Clinical Cytogenetics is encouraged but not required. The successful candidate must have experience in clinical molecular genetic testing by PCR, direct DNA sequencing and Next Generation Sequencing for inherited disorders and neoplastic diseases. Working knowledge of NGS clinical testing including variant annotation and clinical interpretation is required. Experience in teaching and supervising personnel is required. Knowledge regarding regulatory, compliance and accreditation issues as they apply to the field of molecular genetic diagnostics is required.
