Description: The University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Department of Surgery in Memphis is recruiting for a full-time, non-tenure track position. The department is seeking an Assistant or Associate Professor level Ph.D., or equivalent degree, in Epidemiology, Public Health or similar research-related field to work as the Director of Clinical Research in the Department of Surgery. This person will report directly to the Chair of the Department of Surgery and will oversee and lead a comprehensive research program within the Department including the development and oversight of clinical research databases. The Director will assist in the organization and implementation of research policies, objectives, and initiatives; will ensure research activities within the Department are conducted with the utmost ethical and scientific rigor. The opportunity for independent research time will be negotiable based on the experience of the candidate. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and credentials.

It is expected that the successful candidate will have a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in clinical epidemiology research, translational epidemiology research, or other equivalent academic-based research. Experience in translational work with tissue samples would be desirable but not required. Strong communication skills and a record of achievement in scientific investigation including an established track record of peer-reviewed publications are required. Other qualifications include: knowledge and experience in the clinical research process; demonstrated leadership skills; and the ability to work independently and within inter- and intro-disciplinary research teams.
