Beth Bowman, MPA, RHIA, FAHIMA

Beth Bowman, MPA, RHIA, FAHIMA, professor emeritus, has been on the faculty since 1974 and retired June 2014. She is on post-retirement contract for the next several years. She is a fellow of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) as well as past Chair of the AHIMA Assembly on Education. Bowman participated on a national curriculum group to develop model curricula for HIA and HIT programs. She is past chair of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) Professional Development Committee and is a past-chair and commissioner of CAHIIM, the Commission on Accreditation of Health Informatics and Information Management Education, which accredits HIM programs. Bowman also has served as President of the UT Health Science Center Faculty Senate as well as the Tennessee Health Information Management Association. Bowman is a recipient of the Tennessee Health Information Management Association’s Distinguished Member Award. Bowman has received the UTHSC Chancellor’s Distinguished Educator Award, the UT National Alumni Association Outstanding Teacher Award, the THIMA Educator/Mentor Award and the AHIMA Educators Award. She is an AHIMA certified ICD-10 Trainer. She received the UT Public Service Award in 2014.
