Meet Some Students

Amy

Name: Amy
Year: 4th Year AuD

Q: Where are you from?
A: Born and raised in Delaware!

Q: If you’re from out of state (or even from elsewhere in TN), how does it feel to be so far away from home?
A: It’s an adventure! I love Knoxville and the surrounding area – there is always something new to see or do. It’s also exciting to see mountains – Delaware is pretty flat.

Q: What’s your favorite thing about Knoxville?
A: Knoxville is the perfect size. There are plenty of activities that you would find in a large city, but it’s small enough to not be overwhelming.

Q: What would you change about Knoxville, if you could?
A: I would have someone build a Trader Joe’s and a Macy’s! I miss them terribly.

Q: What do you like to do in your free time (when you have it)?
A: Catch up on my “To Read” list, watch terrible reality shows, listen to NPR podcasts, make crafty things, and walk the greenways around Knoxville.

Q: What made you decide to come to UT?
A: I knew I wanted to move south, but I was sold on UT during my visit. Everyone that I spoke to went out of their way to welcome me and answer all of my questions. Also, I was happy to learn that you start working in the clinic right away at UT – at some programs that is not the case.

Q: What made you decide you wanted to be an audiologist/SLP?
A: My original career did not turn out as planned, so I started taking sign language classes to broaden my horizons. In these classes I learned a tiny bit about the field of audiology, and I ended up doing some more research on my own. The more I learned, the more audiology felt like the perfect fit for me. I really enjoy the balance between learning new information and helping patients.

Q: What’s one thing you wish you would’ve known before coming to UT?
A: Don’t make fun of those orange and white checked overalls – people really do wear them to football games! Also, sweet tea is addictive.

Q: What do you consider to be the ideal vacation?
A: Somewhere tropical, with plenty of time to explore and relax.
