Graduate Orthodontics

Patients desiring to be considered for treatment in the graduate orthodontic department (braces) should call (901)448-6214.

Other Graduate Programs

Post Graduate Training Programs, which provide additional education and training for students/residents who are already graduates of dental schools, are also available. Post Graduate Programs that educate and train dentists in ADA recognized dental specialties are also available for those patients who require specialized services. These recognized specialties are (in addition to Orthodontics): Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Periodontics (‘gum diseases’), Pediatric Dentistry, and Prosthodontics (tooth/teeth replacements). An advanced education in general dentistry program (AEGD) is available that provides a full range of general dentistry services for patients that are typically too difficult for undergraduate students to treat.

Graduate students have already received their dental degree and are now in a formal residency program of intensive training in the specialty of their choice. Patients with certain types of difficult problems are selected for treatment in these programs. Each program selects its own patients. Patient contact with these programs may be coordinated through the Office of Clinical Affairs.

University Dental Practice

In addition, we have the University Dental Practice in which patients receive a wide range of general dental and specialty services provided by full time faculty members. Selected full-time faculty members conduct a private practice at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center and offer comprehensive dental treatment. Treatment fees charged at this facility are at the level of fees charged in the community. Patients interested in being treated by a faculty member should request an appointment at the University Dental Practice, 875 Union Avenue, 3rd Floor by calling 901-448-6476.

Referral To Private Practice

Some patients may be referred to a private dentist if it is likely that they will not be able to receive care from the College of Dentistry.
