Dr. James Simon recently presented a poster (Tensile bong strength of ceramic crowns using resin cement) at the 25th Celebration of CEREC, which took place in Las Vegas on August 26th-28th. Dr. Simon presented this poster with two D4 students: Jennifer Hill and Nathaniel Hill. This poster won 1st place at the meeting.

Dr. Franklin Garcia-Godoy recently had an article published in the Journal of Applied Oral Science.

Based on this study, the FDA awarded Puricore FDA approval for use of Aquatine as an endodontic irrigant.

Drs. David Tipton and Mustafa Kh. Dabbous recently had a paper accepted for publication in the Journal of Periodontal Research. Effect of bisphosphonates on human gingival fibroblast production of mediators of osteoclastogenesis: RANKL, OPG, and IL-6. J Periodont Res. 2010. [in press]. (Tipton DA, Seshul BA, Dabbous MK).
This manuscript is a result of Dr. Seshul’s Master of Dental Science research project. Dr. Seshul was mentored by Dr. Tipton while he was a resident in Periodontology. For this research, Dr. Seshul awas a finalist in the 2008 Balint Orban Memorial Competition, sponsored by the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP).

Dr. Garcia-Godoy was recently awarded an R56 from NIDCR for $135,202 to continue his research project on biocompatibility of restorative treatments. He also recently received $100,000 from Procter & Gamble to support research in the College of Dentistry.

Dr. Liang Hong recently accepted a faculty position at UT in Pediatric Dentistry and Community Oral Health. We are very excited to have Dr. Hong as part of the College of Dentistry as he will be an asset in both academics and dental research. Dr. Hong will begin at UT on July 1st.

Dr. Adam Lloyd recently received the Edward M. Osetek Educator Award, recognized by the American Association of Endodontists as one of the organization’s highest awards at its 2010 Annual Session in San Diego, CA. Dr. Lloyd is the 16th recipient of this award and has earned the esteem and respect of peers and students. Dr. Lloyd also recently received the Excellence in Teaching Award presented by the UT Student Government Association Executive Council for his expertise in preclinical education.
