Cone Beam CT

Dr. Donald Karaki is an assistant professor in the Department of General Dental Sciences at UAB School of Dentistry. Dr. Karaki is a member of the American Academy for Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology.

Medical Emergencies

Dr. Steven J. Filler is an associate dean and professor in the Department of General Dental Sciences at the UAB School of Dentistry. He is a former president of the American Association of Hospital of Dentists (AAHD) and is also an AAHD Fellow.

Chemical Dependency

Nancy J. Williams, RDH, EdD, is a professor and Interim Graduate Program Director in the Department of Dental Hygiene at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Memphis, College of Allied Health Sciences. She is also an associate professor in the Department of Biologic and Diagnostic Sciences, UTHSC College of Dentistry.

Cone Beam CT and the Dental Office

Instructor: Dr. Donald Karaki

Takes place on Friday, Dec 9th from 9am to Noon. Three-dimensional radiographic imaging is rapidly emerging as a new basis for assessment and diagnosis. This presentation provides an overview of the applications of Cone Beam CT technology in dentistry. 3hrs CE

Medical Emergencies in the Dental Office

Instructor: Dr. Steven J. Filler

Takes place on Saturday, Dec 10th from 9am to Noon. This popular course will afford the entire dental staff the opportunity to review and enhance basic skills in the supportive treatment of medical emergencies occurring in the dental office. Emphasis will be given to actual emergency situations and staff member response. 3hrs CE credit

Chemical Dependency

Instructor: Nancy J. Williams, RDH, EdD

Takes place on Saturday, Dec 10th from 1:30pm to 3:30pm. This course will discuss types of substances, signs of substance use (psychological, physiological, oral manifestations), and the role of the brain in the addiction process. Because health care professionals must be aware of the many faces of this problem, this course will provide the information needed to help a patient, co-worker or family member manage this debilitating and complicated problem. 2hrs CE
