UTHSC and the West Clinic Join Forces for Second Annual Cancer Awareness Day

When & Where

UTHSC Madison Building Plaza (outside bookstore) on March 26, 2013 from 10am to 2pm
and The West Clinic Midtown and West Clinic Humphreys locations all week from March 25-29

At one time, the word "cancer" meant almost certain death. From the 1960's on, research, like that done here at UTHSC, has led to vastly improved survival rates.

You may not know that almost all (90%) cases of cancer occur in adults. Survival is far from certain for anyone with a cancer diagnosis. This means that we need to keep searching for a cure for all types of cancer. That's exactly what is going on at our very own Center for Cancer Research, the only adult cancer research facility in the Mid-South. Our amazing UTHSC cancer research team, a new partner with the West Clinic, leads the Mid-South in a facility dedicated to laboratory discovery for adult cancers and the development of new therapeutics and new protocols. Their discoveries in the lab have a direct impact on the quality of patient care, with the ultimate goal of helping to treat and eliminate cancer.

On March 26, 2013, please join our campus and the West Clinic as we celebrate our Second Annual Cancer Awareness Day. Green bracelets will be given to anyone who makes a minimum donation of $5 to the UTHSC Cancer Research Fund. We will have tables staffed by our cancer researchers at the Madison Plaza from 10 a.m. to 2p.m. They look forward to seeing you! You will be able to give online via credit card at the Madison Plaza tables as well to receive your bracelet and support the research fund.

Additionally, several West Clinic locations, including the West Clinic Midtown (Union Avenue) and the West Clinic Humphreys, will have green bracelets available the entire week of March 25-29.

To demonstrate their commitment to UTHSC's Cancer Awareness Day, The West Clinic is hosting a special "Green Team" day, whereby all West Clinic employees can wear jeans on March 26th for a $5 donation to the UTHSC Cancer Research Fund. In addition, The West Clinic will also accept donations for the Research Fund at its Union Avenue (Midtown), Humphreys Blvd. (East Memphis), Southaven, and Corinth locations. The West Clinic has been the Mid-South's premier provider of cancer care for more than 33 years, offering specialists in Medical Oncology, Hematology, Gynecologic Oncology, Breast Surgery, Endocrinology, Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, Pain and Palliative Care, and other advanced medical care.

If you are not able to come by the Madison Plaza on March 26 or visit the West Clinic offices March 25-29, and would like to contribute to the UTHSC Cancer Research Fund, you can visit uthsc.edu/give/endcancer/ to make a quick and secure donation at any time.
