Swim Lessons

Registration

Register yourself or a family member at the UTHSC Campus Recreation office during office hours. Campus Recreation is located in the Student Alumni Center at 800 Madison Avenue, Room 312. Registration will be announced on the Campus Digest up to 3 weeks prior to the start date. Due to the popularity of our lessons we cannot reserve spots without receiving payment- be sure to sign up early! Community members are welcome! Membership to the UTHSC Fitness Center is not required to join our swim lesson program. Feel free to invite your non-UT neighbors and friends to sign up!

Please note that while multiple classes will be offered on Saturdays during the same hour, a different instructor will be leading each class.

Private Swim Instruction

Brand new to UTHSC! Private swim instruction allows you to work on your goals, on your schedule. All of our private swim instructors are WSI certified for teaching stroke technique and skills.

Cost:

  • $50 for 1 hour of instruction ages 14 and up
  • $25 for 30 minutes of instruction ages 13 and below

Level Descriptions

For the benefit all swimmers, to sign up for a level the swimmer must be able to demonstrate the skills listed at time of registration.

  • Beginner

    A non-swimmer, may demonstrate paddling and kicking coordination but uses assistance when swimming, may demonstrate a fear of the water, aged 4 to adult.

  • Intermediate

    Demonstrates forward motion in the water on back and front without assistance, endurance and technique need improvement.

  • Advanced

    Able to swim the length of the pool without stopping, demonstrates proficient front and back stroke skills, interested in learning additional strokes.
