BCDD Clinical Services
The BCDD is an interdisciplinary program dedicated to advances in training, patient care, and research. These goals are attained primarily through exemplary service programs for children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families.
What are developmental disabilities?
Developmental disabilities are conditions which begin before adulthood and are expected to pose problems for some time. They include problems in learning, physical development, or both.
The core of the service program is the diagnostic evaluation, which assesses the person's current and future needs. This evaluation is flexible. It may include evaluation by a single professional or a team of professionals, depending on the individual's needs and the requests of the referring physician.
The evaluation is designed to define the problem(s), and recommend education and other forms of treatment to help the person reach his or her potential. The BCDD can offer treatment or can make referrals for services in the community.
Most evaluations are completed in one day. All services are provided on an outpatient basis. With rare exceptions, all examinations are done at the BCDD. The BCDD is open from 8:00 to 5:00, Monday through Friday, including the summer months. University holidays are observed.
Fees for evaluation and treatment can be billed to health insurance companies, including TennCare, Medicaid, and Medicare. The staff will assist the family with insurance forms and will work out a payment plan if necessary to prevent financial hardship.
For those with private insurance, please check with your provider to determine whether prior authorization is required and scope of services which are covered. All TennCare enrollees must have prior authorization from a primary care physician. The BCDD also accepts Arkansas and Mississippi Medicaid for select services.
For Primary Care Physicians (PCP), download the BCDD Physician Referral Form and fax to our secure fax line (901) 448-3844. Caregivers can also download this form for your primary care physician to complete.
