Research Interests

I pursue research with students and colleagues that addresses the development of assessments and interventions for young school age children. In collaboration with graduate students participating in the Mulitdisciplinarry Literacy Grant for Children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (Office of Special Education personnel preparation grant), I am exploring the relationship between speech reading, language skills, rapid naming abilities and literacy ability.  Other investigations include studies of the cross language transfer of phonological awareness skills with bilingual Korean-English speaking children and a developmental study of proverb understanding with Korean and American children, adolescents, and adults. Most recently, my research includes the development of curriculum-based assessments that may be used in a Response to Intervention (RTI) educational model.
