I grew up in Greeneville, Tennessee, and graduated from UTK with a Biochemistry degree. My medical career interests include surgery and Ob/Gyn. For fun, I enjoy running and spending time with my friends and family. I also enjoy volunteering at Downtown Elementary School. My favorite thing about living in Memphis is that there is an NBA team! I am involved in WIMS because it offers female students a wonderful opportunity to grow both professionally and personally.

Jackson, TN is my hometown. I majored in chemistry at Lambuth University. My plan is to go into medical missions. I have a big family and many great friends. I currently live with one of my sisters, she is a student at Memphis College of Art. I enjoy going to church at Fellowship Memphis. Also, I love basketball - playing and watching. My other hobbies include biking, reading, yoga, and cooking. My favorite spot in Memphis is the Greenline.
Sandy Henin - College Representative
2nd Year Medical Student
shenin1@uthsc.edu
I知 from Memphis, TN, and I attended Rhodes College for my undergraduate career. I知 really interested in both internal and family medicine, and although I知 still undecided about what path to pursue, it will likely be something in primary care. Patient interaction is my favorite aspect of medicine, and I desire to build personal, live-changing relationships with the patients I treat. I知 involved in WIMS because I want to raise awareness about various opportunities in medicine, do outreach for the community, and educate/ mentor others. Outside of the classroom, I知 a running nut. Any beautiful day is a day for running! I also enjoy just about any sport, but my favorites include basketball, SOCCER, pole-vaulting, and rock climbing (not saying I知 good at any). My favorite place in Memphis is the infamous bubble tea (which sadly most 填T蚤ns have never heard of). I would love to take anybody who痴 interested and grab a delicious, creamy smoothie!
Namrata Patel - College Representative
4th year Medical Student
Npatel9@uthsc.edu
I am currently a fourth year medical student at UT College of Medicine. I graduated from Emory University in 2008 with a double major in biology and chemistry, with a special interest in women's studies. My passion for community service led me to volunteer at an orphanage in Ecuador and teach young women life skills (sewing, accounting, teaching, etc.) and spend time in Uganda with impoverished students and teach science. Before medical school, I taught high school biology at Avondale High School in inner city Atlanta for a year, which opened up my eyes to the challenges (way beyond studying biology) young children and families face on a day-to-day basis預ccess to good food, clean clothes, and a stable roof. With my background, I hope to make a positive contribution to the WIMS team.
Kelly Andrews - College Representative
Graduate Health Sciences
kandrew6@uthsc.edu
I am from Lansing, Michigan. I graduated from Western Michigan University with a BS in Biomedical Sciences. I am currently researching the innate immune system using a mouse model of hypersensitivity pneumonitis working toward a PhD in immunology at UTHSC. When not in the lab I still enjoy learning new things. I taught myself to knit and crochet and like to challenge myself with new patterns. I like taking long walks in Overton Park and going to concerts at the shell. I joined WIMS for the opportunity to network with my peers.
Latasha Garrett - College Representative
3rd year Dental Student
lgarret3@uthsc.edu
I was born and raised in Chattanooga, TN. I received my B.S. and M.S. in chemistry at the University of TN at Knoxville. I am currently a third year dental student at UTHSC. I'm the class secretary and a master tutor for gross anatomy and physiology. I love to bike, shop, watch movies, cook, read, and spend time with boyfriend, family, and friends. My favorite place to go in Memphis is Flight Restaurant, the menu allows you to try 3 different small courses for an entree.
Jessica Tucker - College Representative
2nd year Dental Student
jtucke31@uthsc.edu
I am from Memphis, TN. I completed my undergraduate degree in Microbiology at Mississippi State University. My dental career aspirations include studying pediatric dentistry and working with children. During my free time, I enjoy running, reading, listening to outdoor concerts, and trying new eateries around town. I am an outdoors person and love discovering new places around Memphis and going on adventures.
Brandy DeWeese - College Representative
3rd year DNP-FNP Student
bdewees1@uthsc.edu
I was born and raised in Joplin, Missouri, and received my BA in English Writing from Rhodes College and my BSN from Baptist College of Health Sciences. My interests include reducing hospital re-admissions, palliative and hospice care and managing chronic illness. I also enjoy advocating for nurse practitioner and health care issues. Outside of school you will find me traveling, camping or rock climbing with my husband and two small children. It is important for me to be involved in WIMS to represent nursing, to network with other healthcare providers and to foster support for everyone on this journey.
