New GME Faculty
Welcome to the University of Tennessee, College of Medicine (UTCOM)! The Office of Graduate Medical Education (GME) looks forward to you joining our team. GME is responsible for the oversight, coordination, approval of new programs, the periodic review of programs, quality monitoring, the development of affiliation agreements, and the provision of resident support. For more information about GME offerings, please visit www.uthsc.edu/gme.
In an effort to assist you in getting acquainted with the UTCOM and medical education as a whole, members of the GME Office of Faculty and Resident Development (OFRD) team will be assisting with your onboarding as a new faculty member. The next step is to make sure that when you show up to work on Day 1, you have what you need to work effectively with our residents and medical students.
It is our intent to make your transition into your new faculty role at UTHSC as smooth as possible by offering a variety of resources that will aid you in navigating our UTHSC system. Thus, as part of your faculty orientation, we will direct you to three resources:
- The OFRD website in which you can find numerous resources that are commonly referenced by our faculty who work with residents and medical students at the University.
- ACGME Key Requirements for Faculty: This document, located on the “New GME Faculty” menu, outlines the accrediting bodies and institutional expectations for all faculty who interact with our residents and medical students.
- GME New Faculty Toolkit: OFRD provides a monthly orientation to assist you in providing an educationally sound and safe environment for resident training and medical education. The 2014 dates and times, as well as registration, for upcoming sessions are listed under “New GME Faculty.
We look forward to partnering with you as we strive for excellence in training physicians to care for our citizens of the State of Tennessee. We will be eager to hear your feedback on whether our resources and process were helpful in creating a positive onboarding experience. At any point in time, please do not hesitate to call or send me an e-mail if you have any questions or need assistance. My contact information is provided below.
Again, welcome to the University of Tennessee!
