Simulation
Currently, the College of Nursing (CON) uses simulation for the nurse anesthesia program. We are working to expand the simulation program to enhance the education of medical students. Simulators, both high fidelity, full-body simulators (like Laerdal’s SimMan pictured above) and low fidelity “task trainers” can be used to teach students specific procedures such as intubation, starting IVs, and lumbar punctures that cannot comfortably be done on live people. This also lets students practice and become more proficient in procedures before performing it on a live patient.
