Welcome UT 2013 Internal Medicine Interns!!
We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to our UT family. We are thrilled that you will be joining us in July to start your career as Internists. It has been a long road getting to this point, but we hope you will agree that it has been worth it. We know that over the next few months you will be finishing up medical school with those last few rotations, taking long-awaited trips, and possibly moving here to Memphis for the first time. Take the time now to relax and enjoy the fruits of your efforts!
The goal of our program is to give you the best training possible to become outstanding General or Subspecialty Internal Medicine physicians. A cornerstone of our mission is to foster the development of today’s resident physicians into tomorrow’s leaders in the field of Internal Medicine as clinicians, teachers, scientists, and patient advocates. With this in mind, our approach to training is to place emphasis on fostering and maintaining excellence in patient care, critical thinking, medical decision making, and procedural skills. We also wish to promote a professional environment which encourages life-long learning. As you will come to see, our program is unique in its exposure to a diverse adult medicine population with breadth and depth in both general and subspecialty medicine. During your three years with us here in Memphis, you will see yourself evolve as a clinician as you are gradually given more responsibility for patient care. We hope to provide a variety of opportunities to further continued intellectual growth including formal multi-disciplinary didactics, research opportunities, mentored faculty relationships, and outside activities which foster interaction between the faculty and residents.
Starting residency training is an incredibly exciting time, but we know that the start of residency can also provoke some anxiety. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need anything at all. Whether it is planning where to live before you come or where to do your grocery shopping once you get here, we are here to help! We intend not only to train you to be excellent physicians but also to be your support and family while you are receiving your training. Again, we want to let you know how happy we are that you will be joining our fantastic training program!
Sincerely,
Amber Evans, Elizabeth Gilless, Elisha McCoy, Brad Stair
